Now to many winter weather is a pain in the backside.  And to be honest it is to me, especially when having to do tedious things such as go to work.  But if like me you are allowed time off for good behaviour, and there is an opportunity to take pictures of scenes like these you jump at the chance.

It was a battle of "should I sit here and finish this coffee!?" or get off my lazy backside and get the camera out!?  Needless to say I am glad the lethargic side of me lost out on that day!

Chollerford Bridge taken this Saturday during the bad spell.  The temperature was -9, and as you can see a spectacular result was given.

This is part of the Housesteads Roman fort.  Well what you can see poking through the snow.

It was the quietest it has ever been on the day the shot was taken, as the only people about had four wheel drive vehicles.  You can certainly see why the Romans left in a hurry.

I have been past this place hundreds of times, and I still don't know the name of the building.  The only landmark is Brocolita Roman Temple on Hadrian's wall, Northumberland.  A few miles from Haltwhistle.

This place is spectacular now, but it must have been pretty featureless a few hundred years ago.  There is literally nothing round it, and in later years you must have liked your own company!

This is a terrible shot, but the clouds looked amazing.  If I didn't know where I was, I might have thought there was a mountain range in the distance.

This shot was taken at the end of the day.  The sun was on its way down and it reminded me of one of those featureless shots you see of wastelands in the Arctic.

This was taken a few miles from haltwhistle on the Military road.

This is the North Tyne in Chollerford.  This is normally a fairly fast flowing part of the river, but since the temperature has been down to -15 or -20 is has slowed somewhat!

It is the first time for many years I have seen the river froze like this, the George hotel will get a great view!

This is the view over the Tyne Valley from the Military road.  Everything south of here was part of  the Roman Empire around 100AD onwards.  And to be honest, the scenery hasn't changed that much.

To take this shot I have had to merge about 10 shots into one.  The hardest part was removing my 4X4 from the car park due to 3ft of snow!

This page may require a longer period to open than others on the site.  Some of the shots are fairly large and will take some downloading.  This is perfectly normal.
