These are the brake vacuum gauges from the "Mallard" A4 Pacific in the National Railways Museum York.

One day they might be in use again !  Well you never know ....

A Black 5 on the North Yorkshire Moor's railway, in a decidedly wet and thundery day this summer.
The New Tornado on its first public main line debut, moving off from Newcastle Central Station.  The noise was not only audible, but was a physical feeling too.  Those cylinders are a sight to behold when seen up close.
Made in England........  A comment that you can't use very much these days sadly.  It's not until you get close to the Loco, that you realise how skilled the Engineers were who built her!  Not many computers involved in the making here!

One of the problems with modernisation is the infrastructure getting in the way!

This is Roseden signal box, near Wooler Northumberland.  This is one of the many remaining relics from the glory days of British Rail in the 50's.
